AEA is calling on the Egyptian authorities to take immediately the following steps:
1- Annul the election results.
2- Terminate the State of Emergency and its applicable laws restricting freedom of speech, assembly and peaceful political activities.
3- Work with all political forces without exclusion to form an Election Commission independent of the interior ministry and answerable to the High Court.
4- Allow full supervision of the entire election process by the Judiciary.
5- Allow unfettered Domestic Civil Associations and International Observers to observe the entire electoral process to give that process the required legitimacy and credibility.
6- Remove the constitutional restrictions on presidential candidacy of article 76 of the Constitution.
AEA further calls on all political parties and independents to heed the lessons learned albeit belatedly and boycott any future elections until above six conditions are met.
Very true! Makes a chaeng to see someone spell it out like that. :)
Dear AEA’s board members,
I am really disappointed in how AEA board has handled this extremely important issue.
I do not understand what purpose posting this statement on AEA internal website serves.
I believe that the main purpose of issuing such statement is to declare publicly AEA’s position of continuing the corrupted election process in spite Egypt’s President promise.
Please let all AEA’s members know when the board will stand up and express publicly our view.
Sincerely,
Ahmed Said
