Dear Egyptian American Friend:
We are contacting you for the first time in order to seek your support in joining our new organization: The Alliance of Egyptian Americans (AEA). AEA is the first national advocacy group in the USA that focuses on an Egyptian American agenda. It is currently developing strategic and action plans to fulfill its three primary goals: promoting democracy, fostering social justice, and achieving true development in Egypt.
If you agree that:
1. Egypt is going through a critical time,
2. Egyptian Americans have a role to play in promoting democracy, social justice, and true development in Egypt,
3. The next few months carry promising opportunities and looming threats,
4. It is essential that Egyptian Americans articulate in this country a united and a clearly constructive position, and
5. With the exception of few narrow or self interest individuals, the voice of the mainstream Egyptian American community has not been heard before, both in Washington DC and elsewhere, and it should.
If you agree with the above caveats, then you should be interested in joining our organization.
Please remember that:
1. Releasing our May 18 declaration was only the first humble step in a very long journey to unite the Egyptian American community and rally its members around the noble causes of promoting democracy, social justice, and development in their homeland.
2. We all are racing time since we are starting this new endeavor in a crucial time of history of Egypt and the Middle East.
3. The number of Egyptian Americans across the USA is estimated roughly to be a half million strong. Only when the AEA rallies enough support of this community that we will be in a good position to help Egypt in its current crisis or to influence the relations between our motherland and our adopted country.
4. As you know, brave Egyptian men and women have been struggling for years to attain true democracy, efficient development and social justice. The situation could get worse and the need will arise for a proactive role of the Egyptian Americans in advising the policies of the USA toward Egypt.
5. It is the policy of AEA to encourage all potential members to discuss the May Declaration with other Egyptian Americans, and to circulate it widely among Egyptian American clubs, churches, and mosques. Please, feel free to call us or send an e-mail if you need any clarification.
6. We realize that some individuals are fearful of the Egyptian government, and others may have genuine constraints imposed on them by the nature of their jobs here in the USA. If this is the case, please let the National Coordinator know that you are supportive but you do not wish to publish your name. A special arrangement has been set to accommodate a list of members who fall in this category.
Finally, we are looking forward to hearing from you.
AEA National Coordinator
